Commitment Ambassador
Walter Montillo
Walter Montillo is a celebrated former professional footballer known for his creativity, vision, and leadership on the field. With an illustrious career spanning from the Argentinian National Team to first division clubs in South America, North America, and China, Montillo has earned his reputation as a dynamic playmaker and a respected figure in the sport.
Montillo has been a public advocate for neurodivergent individuals ever since his son with Down Syndrome – who now plays for Real Madrid in La Liga Genuine – faced challenges getting accepted into “inclusive” schools due to a systemic under-qualification of administrations to accommodate all needs. As an ambassador for Project Inspire, Montillo passionately promotes proactive inclusivity and opportunity for individuals with intellectual disabilities within the sporting community.
Through his role, Montillo strives to make soccer accessible to everyone, reflecting the mission of Project Inspire to create a more inclusive world through sport. In his book Carlitos Cachaña about a young footballer determined to unlock his potential, Montillo quoted his protagonist, “...él soñaba con jugar en un estadio lleno, celebrar goles con la barra, llegar a la seleccion, pero este era un paso gigante.” (“...he dreamed of playing in a packed stadium, celebrating goals with the fans, making the national team, but this was a big step.”) With Montillo’s vision, Inspire athletes will begin to take that step, inching closer to the goal with each coming generation.
Authenticity Ambassador
Maitane López
Maitane López is an icon in Spanish women's football, known for her technical precision, vision, and relentless work ethic. A product of Athletic Club's famed Lezama academy, she made her senior debut at just 17 and quickly became an anchor for both her club and country. The Basque midfielder has over a decade of professional experience, appearing on rosters from Spanish women’s first division Liga F’s Atlético de Madrid and Real Sociedad, to the United States’ first division NWSL’s Gotham FC and Chicago Stars, where she currently plays.
In addition to her clinical-grade aerial wins, López champions mental health, youth development, and gender equality in sport, proving her impact stretches far beyond the game itself. She has collaborated on several projects for the ID community in her home country, and she plans to bring the same fire and vigor evident in her actions both on and off the pitch to her work with Project Inspire. “I want to emanate the message that any human being, regardless of ability, gender, or appearance, deserves to pursue what they love without barriers,” López shares. “Anything less is a failure of humanity.”
Kindness Ambassador
Joan Verdú
Former midfielder and Spanish national team player Joan Verdú is renowned for his intelligence, technical skill, and versatility on the field. With a distinguished career that included stints at FC Barcelona, RCD Espanyol, Real Betis, and other top clubs, Verdú has earned admiration for his ability to make refined plays and control tempo with his cerebral approach.
Off the field, Verdú passionately upholds his longstanding value of soccer for all. As an ambassador for Project Inspire, he strives for the reformation of the sport by advocating for individuals with intellectual disabilities, providing them their rightful opportunities to not only play the game they love, but to compete at the highest level.
Through his leadership, Verdú helps break down barriers and inspire athletes of all abilities, embodying the values of respect, determination, and well-being that define Project Inspire.
Respect Ambassador
Claudia Zornoza
Claudia Zornoza is one of the most accomplished and technically gifted midfielders in Spanish football, celebrated for her composure, intelligence, and leadership on and off the pitch. Her career spans some of the most elite clubs in Spain, including Real Madrid, Atlético de Madrid, Valencia CF, Levante UD, and Real Sociedad — before making the leap to the NWSL’s Utah Royals, where she continues to raise the standard of play.
A 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup Champion with the Spanish national team, Zornoza is part of a rare group of world champions competing in the U.S. league. She earned her senior debut with Spain in 2016 and has since represented her country with pride, collecting multiple caps and accolades. In addition to her World Cup triumph, her career honors include a Liga F title, multiple Best XI month selections in the NWSL, and a Golden Foot award nomination in 2022.
Beyond her decorated career, Zornoza is a vocal advocate for respect, inclusion, and equal opportunity in sport. She believes that every athlete — regardless of ability — deserves to be seen, supported, and celebrated. Through her work with Project Inspire, she aims to uplift athletes with intellectual disabilities and reinforce the fundamental right to compete with dignity and pride. “Football gave me purpose,” she says. “Everyone deserves that same chance — regardless of their path, ability, or circumstance.”
Loyalty Ambassador
Zacarías Morán
Argentine professional footballer Zacarías Morán embodies a crucial component of Project Inspire’s principles – loyalty. A product of Argentina’s distinguished River Plate club structure, Morán has made over 100 appearances in his professional career. His feats include participating in the 2013 South American U17 Football Championship and the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup, debuting at the highest level of South American football in the Copa Libertadores, and playing a transformative role in the success of USL League One’s Richmond Kickers.
Morán’s humanitarian spirit is reflected by his work with the River Plate Foundation, including sponsoring a football school in his hometown, and by his appearances at numerous community events during his time playing in the U.S. He continues to make efforts to advance the global soccer community and empower our athletes by amplifying their voices. “It was the easiest ‘yes’ I’ve ever said,” stated Morán regarding the proposal for him to represent Project Inspire. “Football should have always been equally accessible to all. How could I turn down an opportunity to play a part in righting that ship?”
